1. Laptop computers are available to Medaille students, faculty and staff only.
2. Laptops will be checked out for 2 hours for in-library use only. They can be renewed for an additional 2 hours, if no one else is on the waiting list.
3. Laptops may be used outside of the library for class presentations. 3 days advance notice from the classroom instructor is required. Instructors may contact a full-time librarian, or the Circulation Coordinator to request a laptop for out-of-the library use. Laptops may be taken out of the library for this purpose for a period of two hours. Valid ID from the student is required.
4. Students must have valid, current semester bar-coded Medaille ID. Students
must leave their ID cards at desk until computer is returned.
Faculty and Staff must be in the library circulation database.
5. Borrowers must read and sign a loan agreement accepting responsibility for
any loss or damage to the computer. All costs of repair or replacement attributable
to a borrower will be charged to that borrower. The replacement value of each
laptop as of May 2005 is $1500.00.
6. DO NOT LEAVE LAPTOPS UNATTENDED AT ANY TIME. Laptops that are found unattended will be returned to the front desk by library staff and this will be noted in the borrower's circulation record. If this occurs a second time - the borrower will lose laptop borrowing privileges for the semester.
7. Previous search history and all saved files will be cleared from the computer
periodically. The library is not responsible for deleted files. Laptop users' files should be saved to a floppy disc, which can be purchased
at the bookstore. Library will not provide or sell discs.
8. Library laptop computers are configured to print to the front desk printer.
Printing charges are 10 cents a page.
9. Headphones must be used for sound files. These can also be checked out at
the front desk.
10. All laptops are due back at the Circulation Desk 30 minutes before library
closing time.
11. Fines for failure to bring back a laptop on time accrue at $10.00 per hour.
12. Privacy Statement: Users of all public computers should be aware that it
might be possible for third parties to obtain data from the computer's hard drive at a later date. The Medaille College Library endorses the American
Library Association's Policies
on Confidentiality of Library Records and Personally Identifiable Information About Library Users. The Library
will not release information about library users except as required by law,and only when served with a proper warrant or subpoena by law enforcement agents.
