Library Instruction
Please contact Andrew Yeager (ayeager@medaille.edu or 880-2336) to schedule library instruction sessions. We will tailor these sessions to address a variety of information literacy objectives, including effective use of periodical databases, evaluation of information found on the web, and access to information located in other libraries.

Ordering New Library Materials
Faculty are encouraged to submit orders for new library materials. Print order forms are available in the library or may be submitted online . Contact the library for online ordering log-in information.
- All orders must be approved by your Department chair. Print order forms should be signed by the chair before they are submitted to the Library Director. Online forms will automatically be forwarded to your chair by email.
- It is recommended that all orders be submitted before the end of February, so that they can be included in the current fiscal year.
- If materials are needed by a certain date, please indicate this on your order form. We will expedite the ordering and cataloging process as much as possible.
- Contact Jessitine Smith at ext. 2159 to check on order status.
- When cataloging and processing are completed, the new materials will appear immediately in the Library's Online Catalog .
- All items for Course Reserve must be brought to the Front Desk in the Library, and must be accompanied by a Reserve Request Form (available in the Library.) A complete bibliographic citation must be provided.
- Items that may be placed on Reserve, subject to U.S. Copyright restrictions, include: books (library copy or your personal copy), videos, slides, photocopies of periodical articles or book chapters, and other materials.
- Advise the Library if the Reserve Loan Period should be:
1. IN LIBRARY USE ONLY
2. 2-DAY LOAN - items can be checked out at anytime and are due back 48 hours later.
3. OVERNIGHT - items are due back the following morning when the library opens. - Generally allow 24 hours for processing of hard copies of Reserve materials, however during busy periods, such as the first few weeks of a new semester, processing may take longer.
Electronic Reserves
Reserve materials for your classes can now be available online 24 hours a day - 7 days a week - through the Library's ERes (Electronic Reserves) system. Instructors can sign up in the Library for ERES, either in-person or by calling x.2283.
- Each participating instructor will receive a Course Page for each of their classes. Reserve materials can be searched for and retrieved by Department, Instructor and Course, and will be accessible at all times, on and off campus, for students registered in your classes.
- The Library will provide scanning services for reserve materials such as periodical articles, book chapters (up to two chapters or 20% of book text per copyright guidelines)and other print documents. These will be converted and stored on a library server as .pdf files.
- Slides, photographs, and other illustrations may also be scanned and saved on ERES.
- In addition, WORD, Excel, PowerPoint files, images and other computer files may be made available, as well as Internet links. Computer files may be submitted to the library on disc.
- All Reserve materials are subject to U.S. Copyright restrictions and Fair Use guidelines. (see web links below for more information)
- A print copy of the item may also be placed on Reserve in the Library.
Requirements for scanned items:
- Good quality, one-sided photocopies of articles, book chapters, etc. are required.
- The photocopies should be brought to the library or sent by campus mail, and must contain a full bibliographic citation.
- Scanning materials is time consuming.Please allow at least 5 working days to process.
Electronic reserve materials are password protected to ensure Medaille College complies with the Fair Use Guidelines of the U.S. Copyright Law. Instructors are responsible for obtaining permission for any reserve materials not covered by Fair Use Guidelines. Instructors will inform students in each participating class of their assigned password.
Interlibrary Loan and Infopass Services
Need a book or article that the Library does not own?
- Request it through Interlibrary Loan - at the Library's front desk or by our Online Interlibrary Loan Request Form
- Apply for a Western New York INFOPASS. Available for faculty and graduate students, passholders may borrow materials directly from other WNY participating libraries.
WNYLibraries.org is a virtual union catalog that allows you to search the holdings of many local libraries simultaneously.

Grant Advisor Plus Monthly newsletter provides information on grant, research, and fellowship opportunities for U.S. institutions of higher education and faculty. Accessible through the Library Catalog.
Middle States Commission on Higher Education Web Site
The web site includes PDF versions of Middle State's Manuals of Accreditation Protocols, plus other publications and information.
